Monogamy is Overrated: Mix and Match Dining Chairs

Gone are the days where we have to chose one single chair style to circle our dining tables. This trend in interior styling gives us the freedom to indulge in our lust for chair polygamy. Yes I said it, its ok to dip the chair leg in the communal ink. Commitment to one chair is hard, so have fun and try all the chair flavors your little hiney can find.

That being said don't go completely nutso and buy one of every remotely attractive chair. Pair chairs that have similar heights, colors, finishes and that belong to the same design theme. For example, classic Danish design doesn't always sing well with traditional farmhouse, transitional upholstered or ultramodern avant garde. It does however go wonderfully with clean lined midcentury and of course natural bohemian. Take in account the style of your table as well, with these rules in mind.

Now you could be thinking, I like upholstered chairs, especially during long family wine fueled meals, and there are some sleek upholstered options out there. However, the Modhemian way is to keep it classic, clean with a sturdy wood, metal or plastic frame. To add a little cozy to this, throw a great mud cloth lumbar pillow in the mix or the always fab, animal shearling. I also really like a long bench on one side of the table for added seating. Not so great for back support, but exquisite for accommodation as many friends as possible around the table, while adding a touch of a bohemian rustic vibe.

KAITRINS STYLING

TIPS

#1

Before you even bring anything into a space, nail down the feeling and function you want to convey with said space. Build off that feeling through color, texture, pattern, form and funk.

#2

Make sure to designate and define each living area, no matter the square footage. Create conversation, reading, lounging and eating areas that will naturally lure people to the appropriate space by the power of furniture layout, lighting and styling.

#3

Dont forget to add touches of YOU throughout. Its your home, not a catalogue, showroom or photoshoot, so personalize with accessories, art and lighting that speaks to you and works in your day to day life.
