Now that Summer is coming to the end, even though we do live in Southern California, our time to spend outside is soon becoming more and more limited as Fall approaches. Take the next couple weeks to enjoy the splendor that is outdoor living and do it in style with some of these great outdoor living situations.

Big, simple, wooden square pieces are very on trend and if you have the space to rock it out, then by all means, do it! Im also loving the big over stuffed low slouchy canvas type sectionals that just look so broken in and comfortable that you could literally sleep outside every night, and not because your husband is snoring, because you want to. If you like something a little lighter, I am also loving the string back buckets chairs, or the metal geometric chairs for smaller spaces. And please don't ever count out the peacock chair, my 70's inspired chair crush du jour! Use a rattan pouf for a table top or foot rest, low overstuffed cushions for added low seating add pops of color with LOTS of pillows, flatweave area rugs and tons of pretty potted greenery to take your styling game to the next level.

Don't forget to throw down some shade. Umbrellas, pergolas and sails are your skins best friend against the unforgiving California sun. It also creates a lower sightline that makes your outdoor space extra cozy.

Fire pits are always a great idea for outdoor spaces. They create a focal point, soft light and obviously warmth but also is caveman entertainment at its finest, so you can focus on conversations with your family, not huddled around the TV. If a fire pit is not in your outdoor vision, pretty natural woven pendants, canvas lanterns, strings of little white lights and hurricanes filled with drippy candles will lend some ambiance in the most magical of ways.

KAITRINS STYLING

TIPS

#1

Before you even bring anything into a space, nail down the feeling and function you want to convey with said space. Build off that feeling through color, texture, pattern, form and funk.

#2

Make sure to designate and define each living area, no matter the square footage. Create conversation, reading, lounging and eating areas that will naturally lure people to the appropriate space by the power of furniture layout, lighting and styling.

#3

Dont forget to add touches of YOU throughout. Its your home, not a catalogue, showroom or photoshoot, so personalize with accessories, art and lighting that speaks to you and works in your day to day life.
