Its official! We are cruising into holiday season at full force and although you may not be ready, let's try to embrace it the best we can. And when I say embrace, I mean you deck that home inside and out with some fabulous holiday decor damnit! I'm a sucker for a good family gathering, especially when it revolves around cooking, binge eating and drinking, getting pretty and decorating, so I'm super stoked for this holiday season! It’s a really exciting time of the year, so let's celebrate it the best way we know how: creating gorgeous interiors to the envy of all your friends, family and neighbors!

Here are a few simply beautiful decor ideas that I think are classic, perfectly organic and totally modern that you can easily interpret in your own home,Thanksgiving through New Years.

The fireplace mantle is the centerpiece of the living room and therefore a great space to display holiday decor. Liven this surface up with gorgeous green garlands, pretty brass antique candle sticks, twinkle lights and pops of color with these cute evergreen statues from Anthro! Adorable!

The dining table is another perfect place to display your holiday creations. When decorating around food, try to keep it rather simple, let the dishes be your focus. Add a runway of luscious greenery, scatter candles for light and height, perhaps reuse those Halloween gourds for added shape and color in muted whites and greens. If you want to add color, try to focus in one seasonal hue, like oranges and reds with a tribe of blood oranges, persimmons and pomegranates or an occasional protea, for a suitable, non distracting pop of color, that fills in gaps strikingly. Don't forget, you can source things from you back yard like branches, leaves and pinecones. No need to spend money, keep it natural, clean and therefore modern and chic.

As far as table settings, I like to keep dishware light and without pattern, maybe with some imperfect handmade variation in shape. In regards to glassware, vintage mismatched crystal is always a good choice for shorter water glasses but I tend to go for big thin bulbous wine glasses, plenty of volume for our family conversations. I'm really loving gold or brass flatware, but also have an affinity towards the matte black dipped options, very cool. If I were to add any pattern to the mix it would be with a runner or the napkins. Anything raw linen, subtly striped, mud cloth inspired, polka dotted, overdyed, tie dyed, you name it, I'm feeling it.

Simplicity is often best with holiday decor. Branches in vases, pinecone garland, simple asymmetric wreaths, neutral modern ornaments, say holiday without overruling your space. They bring the outside in and help to ease you into the holiday spirit.

TIPS

#1

Before you even bring anything into a space, nail down the feeling and function you want to convey with said space. Build off that feeling through color, texture, pattern, form and funk.

#2

Make sure to designate and define each living area, no matter the square footage. Create conversation, reading, lounging and eating areas that will naturally lure people to the appropriate space by the power of furniture layout, lighting and styling.

#3

Dont forget to add touches of YOU throughout. Its your home, not a catalogue, showroom or photoshoot, so personalize with accessories, art and lighting that speaks to you and works in your day to day life.
